A solid image

I really really like the design of the model, and I love seeing composite images of the drawn concept, to the plain model, to the render and pose... and the design of the robot is creative for sure. I like all the details that you put into it and it really has your signature style.

However, a lot of those details get lost in the highly reflective material on the armor. It reminds me of when Bryce was getting popular and people would just make reflective objects for the sake of it, it's very flat and noisy. If you could composite an AO layer over it so the shading of the model isn't completely lost in the reflection, it would really help to accentuate the details on it... But then again this *was* done a year ago, and this was for an animation so perhaps it looks better in motion. I just think with better materials (no offense to Osuka), it could really be a 10.

MindChamber responds:

well its supposed to be brass, and i think thoseyellow parts came out fine, but I agree the joints and int gears couldve been better with a more prime base coloring.

thanks for the review.

Lovely

I love the perspective in this image. Very nice details and colors.

Shayphis responds:

I appretiate that :)

Excellent work

I love the style and the amount of details in this. Nice touch with the transparent shirt, shame you had to conceal the girl's anatomy ;) What were your friend's reaction? I'd be pretty flattered by such a piece if I were them! Very creative work.

Bullsik responds:

Thank you. They love it.

nice

Haha that is a cool piece of work... only things I dislike about it is the lighting, it's a little too dark and could be presented a little better, and that you could add a lil more of a stencil effect to the carving, have a part of the top of the pumpkin linking to the tankman's head and the tank's cannon--otherwise I'd think a carving like that would just fold over without those supports. Other than that, I think that stem is a little too tall. But it's still not a bad piece by any means!

m1kclark responds:

I agree with all your comments. In fact, there's actually one piece of the pumpkin that isn't attached to anything, and would simply fall out in real life. I tried "moody" lighting and ended up with just plain "dark."

Awesome

The lines on this drawing are really well done! I just wish the shading could match up to it, it looks too much like a vector... on the other hand that's kind of it's appeal too. I dunno, I think I like it.

IAmSpullen responds:

i was going for the same effect that ultrapitchfork has... not sure if i got it right or not though

Good enough!

Really nice work on the face and the eyes, and props on the hair strands too. I do think that there could be more facial shading though, especially since the hair is so detailed yet the face is very flat. Maybe just add some subtle shading around the nose or the eyes, it would really flesh it out.

TheAlterEgo responds:

hemmm..
i'll try for next :D
thanks,
sometimes i think twice to give it more shading 'cause i afraid make it worse :P
lol

Very nice

I love the distorted look and how it's made up entirely of circular blotches yet it's still detailed, and I really like how the shading changes colors yet still captures the depth so well.

IAmSpullen responds:

I like that you like it

Yummy

Really enjoying the clean lineart and the style of the character, she looks sassy and you illustrated that well. The anatomy looks nice and I love the coloring and her hair. It's a good mix of sharp shadows and soft highlightst.

Thanks much!
Inspiration for the style of this one partly comes from the stylized promo pieces for Hooters and other sports bars... =D

Superb

What a wonderfully done piece, it's excellent in so many respects. I freaking love the subtle luminance on the top of the Crono's sword and the full flat glow on Marle's hand. The character shading and details are excellent and so is the texturing, such as the clothing folds. The background mimicks the pastel look of the game's environments. I really like the look of Marle's face too, that's great and so is Frog's... but I'm not too fond of Crono's face, I dunno why. His nose looks too rounded and his mouth doesn't match his facial structure, like it's too masculine/rounded. Anyway, that's a minor issue. Favorite'd. This piece deserves more attention.

maniac086 responds:

Thank you very much! =)

Crono's facial features were a trick and a half to work on... haha
My goal was to give him slightly Asian eyes and nose (and even hair), with a Caucasian complexion and irises.
If you look at the full size, you may be able to notice that he really has dark/black hair, simply "dyed" to look that bright of red. I just thought this would be an interesting take on him since he's from a seemingly medieval European town but has plenty of familiarity with the katana; figured I'd have a little fun reimagining the character to help explain that a little.

But the mouth... the mouth... haha!
That got changed so many times, for the exact reason you've pointed out. Ultimately, I took a judging glance at it with the overall piece and felt satisfied at the time of completion. But it's definitely the biggest drawback for me as of now. So I will most likely definitely be going in and restructuring Crono's jawline and mouth when I get around to completing the Lavos half of the piece!

Thanks again!

Excellent

This is has high potential for both the calendar and a t-shirt too.

Kembry responds:

I would piss in my pants , if I could win in the calendar contest :B
And for shirt, yes good idea man.
I should try to put it in Threadless.
